Release the Worm
Date of Scene: 03 April 2020
Location: Outskirts of Ibex
Synopsis: The Autobots release the 'captive' Cyberworm and review data taken on it.
Cast of Characters: Wheeljack, Jazz, Swivel, Skyshredder, Sideswipe

Sideswipe has posed:
It's an Autobot research faciliy on the outskirts of Rodion, a nexus above the undergrid areas. Where some of the Autobots are getting ready to with a few small more scans and some passive modeuls to put on the worm to release it back into it's habitat. Hopefully to try and eat some more Decepticons than Autobots this time. Sideswipe is looking -very- warily at the huge thing, currently in stasis. "So does this thing eat some of those buggoids?"

Swivel has posed:
Swivel shrugs to Sideswipe. "Like the ones that recently took up nesting under Nyon?" Swivel asks. Mention of bugs under Nyon causes Swivel a little bit of sheepishness, since she usually patrolled the undergrid there very often. But... she'd been called away on so many other missions, she hadn't had the time. Swivel finally offers a shrug. "Maybe. Not enough CYbertronians down there to sustain them, so they must get getting energy from something."

Jazz has posed:
Jazz brings up the rear of the group. He gives a curious glance towards Swivel the towards Sideswipe, "That was the whole purpose of detaning it right? We didn't find out?"

Skyshredder has posed:
Skyshredder is here to help the scientists with their experiment! ...okay, she's actually here in case they need extra muscle, either against the worm or the bug bots. Right now she is just following after the others, sword at the ready and revving every now and then. "So, did we find out if those buggoids are actually mechs, or...are they just mech-looking cyberfauna?" Why's she asking? Well, probably so she knows how bad it would be if she had to kill one.

Wheeljack has posed:
Wheeljack is near the worm, a brand new sensorpack on his back although for the most part it is inactive... intending to use it for once they hit the road really. He reaches up to pat the creature on its side, "Don't worry, we'll get you home soon." He pauses and then adds, "So... please don't try toe at use when we do it." Another pat and then he turns away, aimed a bit towards Jazz. "We learned what we can but... but only so much we can do, keeping it in stastilock. New sensors /should/ get us some better data on it in the wild." Indeed, there are some new packs attached to teh mechanical portions of the cyberworm, not yet active yet either. "Swivel, tehre's still time for me to install a seat though... in case you want to go for another ride."

Swivel has posed:
Swivel freezes up, then turns around and salutes Jazz. "Sir, Jazz, sir. The, uh, contents that were taken from inside the worm did not give conclusive results as to the entirety of its diet according to these reports as it was too broken down." Swivel glances to a nearby console with a holoscreen. "But I'm not a scientist. I just go by what I've been told." Swivel glances over to Skyshredder, then back to Jazz. "Mostly, we hope to gather info by putting trackers on the giant subterranean mechannelid. Also, they are not the same as the things found under Nyon, the morphology is entirely different. The popular name for this jumbo tube of death," Swivel says, thrusting a thumb back at the worm, "...is Dweller. For now."

Swivel looks over at Wheeljack at the offer of a seat. She tilts her head for a moemnt or two, as if seriously considering it, then shakes her head. "No, I don't think that is necessary."

Sideswipe has posed:
Sideswipe just glances at Swivel, "... Ride? That sounds pretty.. Gnarly." He looks back and forth at Swivel and deadpans, "Dweller? Like in the depths of Cybertron? Sure. Makes as much sense as anything else. These things are really old. Well, I guess we don't know really how old. Couple of the Senators I guarded used to talk about hunting them." HE would cross his arms and look over at it. "So, uhm.. Can we put stuff on it without it trying to eat us?"

Jazz has posed:
Jazz nods and says, "Thank You Lieutenant," he quips casually at Swivel.

"How soon before we are ready to let it go?" he asks of Wheeljack. "The sooner the better."

He looks back at Sky and shrugs, "Maybe they will simply tell us?"

Wheeljack has posed:
Wheeljack regards the slumbering beast, "Don't worry, Sideswipe. Wormlock here has been pretty quiet this whole time. Should be able to get the last few sensors installed without any issue." He steps up to his fellow Autobot, clapping him on the shoulder. "You can get the one that's getting installed in the mouth, to study it's dietary habits." Another clap on his shoulder and Wheeljack steps away...and without any kind of ability to emote facial expressions, it does make it hard to tell if the scientist is serious or not. Jazz snags his attention though with the question, "Just need a breem, maybe a little more. Last few sensor packs... I'll get right to it." He picks up a round one, with small magnetic clamps and then tosses it to Sideswipe... giving him perhaps a second or three more than is really nessassary before he points up at the base of one of the worms tentacles.

Skyshredder has posed:
Skyshredder pats the big worm as well. "Been a while since I saw something much bigger than me that wasn't a ship!" she says with a smile. When Wheeljack mentions that Swivel rode the worm, Skyshredder's optics light up. "Ooooh. That must have been fun! Why don't you wanna go again?" she asks, then blinks. "...lieutenant?" She isn't the sharpest, but she isn't sure that's the right rank.

Jazz replies to her, and she blinks. "You think so? They didn't seem very talkative. Even the big one didn't say anything, even after I accidentally broke some eggs."

Sideswipe has posed:
Sideswipe just glances at Jazz, "I just don't want to have more of them. If this thing can let us know how to make sure they stay away, uhm.. Good for me." Sideswipe might not have run into these beyond stories, but thankst ot he run in with the big bug-oids, he's more than happy to avoid Cybertronian wildfauna for the forseeable future.

Swivel has posed:
"Well it's shorter and has a better ring than Giant Subterranean Mechannelid. Though some reports just refer to it as specimen with a number attached. Also SGM." Swivel turns back to the console for a moment. "There've been reports of similar such creatures so long, and with different names. And there's arguing over whether the ones spoken of in old archives are actually the same as this beastie here, or just similar. Or so I read." She scans the holoscreen for a moment. "But... there's some... oddities in their composition. Which I think really lends credence to the theory that this fella, Wormlock as Wheeljack has named it, isn't exactly the same as some of the old Undergrid horrors we've all heard about." Swivel turns back around, to face everyone else.

"You're welcome s...." Swivel pauses. Something didn't sound quite right. Lieutenant. "Ensign, sir." She carefully corrects. As for how soon the worm will be ready, Swivel defers to Wheeljack, as he's the one installing most of the hardware.

Swivel is more than happy to turn to Skyshredder in response. "Oh it isn't that I don't want to go again, but it's disrespectful to the creature to install a seat. The trackers are so we can learn about it and hopefully learn to live peacefully with it. The seat? That is a sign of enslavement."

Wheeljack has posed:
Wheeljack is tending to teh sensor packages, giving Swivel her moment of glory with Jazz and the others. Despite his ribbing of Sideswipe, its Wheeljack that actually heads over to to teh mouth of the beast. He places several little backs within the razor-tipped mouth of the creature. "Don't you worry one bit, Wormlock..." he says, his voiceboxes lighting up as he talks to teh creature. "Give these drones a day or three and they /should/ pass right through you." He does plant another sensor on the side of the creature, the last one to be installed. "Jazz, we're good to go when you are."

Jazz has posed:
Jazz nods and smirks to himself, "Right...Ensign," he turns back to Sky and says, "You broke eggs?" he rubs his chin.

"You and I are going to have a lesson on how to walk softly."

Jazz fires his grappling hook to get to the other side of the hole in the ground. It's the flashy way from over hte gaping entrance he says, "It's your project Wheeljack. Run it as you see fit."

Skyshredder has posed:
Skyshredder ooohs and nods at Swivel's explanation. "Yeah, installing a chair might be a bit too much." she agrees. She looks the worm over again. "Do you think we could ask it to help us out in the future? Like...if it doesn't hate us for capturing it and putting things on it, I mean."

She looks to Jazz after that. "I wasn't walking. I was just big and Hot Rod was stuck in some hardening goo. I think he might have been food for the protoforms, so it's good we got him out. And I think some of the protos survived! I'd have been sad if they all died because of me."

She can't really contribute to the science stuff, but she watches Wheeljack curiously. "You're feeding it probes?"

Sideswipe has posed:
The creature lets out a kreen-chirr-pt that to Skyshredder would be easy enough to parse as confusion-getaway and appreciation for freedom-release. So the large bug is without a moment to lose going back over into the tunnel. Not at fleeing speed. It goes to take the tunnel already dug. Which confirms the speculation that it would go for the easiest route - using it's senses to look for weaker areas to tunnel through. And within a quarter breem or so it' sgone in entirely and vanished.

Sideswipe peers over the side. "So.. Can we block the hole now just in case?"

Wheeljack has posed:
Just before the stasis lock is lifted, Wheeljack's sensor pack activates. A single radar dish extends from the backpack the inventor wears, rotating twice before locking onto teh direction of the worm. "There's only so many ways to see how soemthing's innards work, Skyshredder." replies the scientest, stepping back as teh creature comes to. "This one kept them inside him....and me out of it. Good compromise, I thought." Theres a tinge of humor, although his focus is mostly on the worm. "Getting teh callback from the main sensor backs...I've set up a few tightbeam relays in teh tunnels' we've mapped out so far. If Wormlock comes by, it'll transmit copies of its scanlogs for us to pick up, and the drones should fly their way back once they... pass." As the creature dissapears down the tunnel, one can actually see the small radar on his sensor back rotating a bit, tracking the worm as it begins to decend.

Swivel has posed:
Swivel stands back and watches the creature go, tilting her head as it does so. She crosses her arms, her mind distracted by Jazz's slip up. She goes very quiet. And that isn't the only thing on her mind, either.

Jazz has posed:
Jazz looks over at Sideswipe then to Wheeljack then considers it for a moment, "If the 'Cons find it with all of this equipment on it, it may be in danger. yes. Let's cover it up," he says to Wheelack.

"You drone will be able to find their way back if we plug this hole right?"

Skyshredder has posed:
Skyshredder giggles and grins a bit at Wheeljack. "You mean, you don't want to be a meal for a big wormy thing just to get some data?" she asks teasingly. She seems to perk at the creature's sounds and smiles to it before waving as it leaves. "Take care! Don't eat anyone I wouldn't!" she calls out after it as it disappears down the tunnel. Sideswipe suggests blocking the entrance, and Skyshredder hmms. "I doubt it would stop it from coming back up if it wanted. But, seems like it doesn't want." She looks over at Swivel after that and tilts her head. "Hey, you alright mini boss?"

Jazz speaks up, and Skyshredder hmms before nodding lightly. "Yeah, I guess we should cover it up, then." she says, then giggles. "Or let Prowl turn it into another secret base. Who'd think of looking for a secret base in a worm tunnel?" She is obviously joking, thinking such a thing would be silly. "He did have one in the lift, after all.

Wheeljack has posed:
WHeeljack gives a little nod at that, "Shouldn't be a problem.... Cyberton has enough holes in her that they'll find their way home. And if they don't? Well, we're in no worse postion than we are now." Still, Wheeljack steps over to the edge of the hole, peering down at it with bright optics. He holds the look for a just a second and then turns back to Jazz, "I could set up a controlled explosion that'll drop the cavern in on itself."
Honestly, Wheeljack probably shouldn't sound THAT eager about making a big explosion but... Hey. A bot has to have hobbies.

Sideswipe has posed:
Sideswipe just glances at Skyshredder, "Don't give him ideas. I swear he's like a robo-squirrel. Keeps on burying energon rations all over the place, forgets where they put them. Someday or other he's gonna go senile and forget where they all are. And we'll find out that's where all the slagging blasters missing from the last few thousand vorn have ended up and we can't remember who has what gun."

Swivel has posed:
Swivel's optics flicker and she looks over at Skyshredder. "Hm? Oh. Well. There's a lot on my mind - but that's all part of being a mini-boss. Lots to think about." Swivel explains as simply as she can, without fobbing Skyshredder off with an obvious line such as 'I'm fine'.

Swivel looks over at Wheeljack when he mentions an explosion. "Controlled or not, it might attract unnecessary attention." Swivel remarks. She then glances towards Ibex, where just the other cycle she'd done a little damage control herself. "Residents on the outskirts of Ibex are jumpy as is."

Jazz has posed:
Jazz snorts as he laughs, "Explosion? No," he looks at Sideswipe, "We have our one man wrecking crew right here. Right now. Sideswipe, if you please. Try not to destory any of Prowl's projects please," he jokes.

"Swivel is right, to much going on to set off unannouced explosions.

Then he points to Skyshredder, "I don't llike Wormlock. Come up with a better name."

Skyshredder has posed:
Skyshredder nods to Swivel even while snickering at Sideswipe. The sudden order from Jazz catches her off-guard for a moment, and she lets out a surprised 'eh?' before considering. "Yeah, I don't like Wormlock, either. Too close to Deadlock for me." she says, then taps a foot. "How about...Wiggles!" she says enthusiastically. "Or...Gigadigga? Or maybe Grinder?"

Swivel has posed:
Swivel just shakes her head as Prowl continues to be brought up to poke fun at. "Well, I have some things to collate and reports to file." Swivel nods, salutes Jazz, and heads off to do just that.

Wheeljack has posed:
"Your sparks are cold and empty." intones Wheeljack at Jazz and Skyshredder as they dismiss the name for Wormlock. He finally shuts down his sensor pack, the radar dish folding up and then retracting into the bulky backback as he steps away more fully from the hole. "Jazz, you need moe for anything else? Otherwise, I'll head back to my lab and start setting up the receivers for the data whenver the drones get back."

Jazz has posed:
"Gigadigga it is," Jazz responds.

He nods to Swivel then to Wheeljack, "You are clear to go."

Then towards Sideswipe, "Cover her up Swipe," and finally he heads towards Sky and pats her on the shoulder, "Nice naming Shred."

Skyshredder has posed:
Skyshredder blinks...then beams the biggest shark-toothed smile ever. "Thanks, Jazz!" she says happily. She looks over at Wheeljack and shakes her head. "Nuh-uh! You are just bad at naming. Wormlock? Just sticking -lock on something doesn't make it a good name! Grimlock is a good name. Deadlock isn't." she says with a firm nod, apparently thinking that proves the point. Swivel heads back and Skyshredder raises a hand to wave. "Bye Mini-boss!"

ADDENDUM: Intel Report on Worms

As a follow up to the capture of a tunneling menace encountered in the Undergrid, intelligence gathered on the creature has been compiled into several reports.

ORIGINS

The Giant Subterranean Mechannelid, GSM, or 'Dweller' resembles descriptions that have cropped up in various documentaries of the undergrid, archives, footage, and horror tales. But there are some differences between these tales and the subject that has been creating problems lately. After seeing something vaguely familiar in the composition report, I (Ensign Swivel) requested a comparison done of information gathered from the Rift Monsters. With enough matching markers, it is very possible this particular creature came through the dimensional rift, but has since adapted.

To be clear, it is likely not at all connected with the insectoid creatures found beneath Nyon.

BEHAVIOUR/FEATURE

Dweller does not rely on visual input, instead using sound and smell, possibly sensors that respond to vibrations. It's well adapted for tunneling. Its intelligent but not sentient, but can be rational in its decision making, but its motivations like most creatures is primarily survival. It will eat just about anything it can gets its mouth around. It occasionally regurgitates a viscous slime but this behaviour still isn't fully understood. Seeing as it is from another dimension it likely will not have any reproductive capabilities.

As previously mentioned, their behaviours show that survival is its primary concern. For the most part it only becomes aggressive when startled, threatened, or hungry. While it can tunnel, it will opt to use already established tunnels to move around. Communicates through vibrations and a variety of sounds such as chirps and kreens - not all have been logged as of yet.

Still awaiting more technical details and movement information from trackers.
