King of the Sonic Hill
Date of Scene: 21 August 2018
Location: Sonic Canyons
Synopsis: Autobots and Decepticons fight over dimensional portal technology and energon in the Sonic Canyons. Prime saves the day for the Autobots when Deadlock activates a failsafe plan.
Cast of Characters: Blast Off, Optimus Prime, Valour, Deadlock, Hyperdrive, Healthpoint

Optimus Prime has posed:
The plan was set. Prowl and the other analysts had gone over it in painstaking detail. Now, it all rode on the execution of this preliminary operation. Sitting in a shuttle with his fellow Autobots, Optimus Prime stares at a viewscreen that tracks their progress toward the Sonic Canyons. Their target? An energon factory that just went cold. Unfortunately, said factory was on the highest peak in the canyon, and asking his troops to simply climb up there was impractical at best.

Prime stands with arms folded, his blue optics running through the plan in his head for probably the tenth time. A voice rings out from their pilot:

"Target is coming up, Prime. Can't get a reading on Decepticon presence."

"Always prudent to assume," Optimus replies, looking back at his fellow travelers, "Autobots, we will be airdropping shortly. Expect anything. Megatron will not give up this facility, or the technology within, easily. Our primary objective is the portal technology. If we secure the facility, or any of the energon or supplies within, then it will be a good day, but we must capture the portal tech."

Healthpoint has posed:
Healthpoint is pretty excited. Even though it's a possible combat operation she is finally going on a mission with the amazing Optimus Prime! Without ever really meeting him she has kind of idolized the Autobot leader. Perhaps because of Prowl's programming, or perhaps because of all the stories she's heard. Either way, she is a bit star-struck. And of course she is worried how she will perform under the added pressure of being on a mission with Optimus Prime. She is only a decent combatant under normal circumstances! Perhaps she will be lucky for once and that purple shuttle mech -won't- show up to shoot her.

When the warning is given that the airdrop will be soon she tenses and runs a full systems check on herself. She's as ready as she will ever be, and she gives Optimus a sharp salute. "Understood, sir!" she says, perhaps a bit too loudly.

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive grins eagerly as he stares at the doorway. He's excited to be doing an airdrop. This sounds alot more interesting than the normal sort of training missions he's been on. He's debating how fast they'll end up dropping. And How much fun it might be. The mech fidgits back and forth glancing out one window and then the other, looking to see if he can tell where the drop off point will be.

Deadlock has posed:
The Decepticons have a similar objective, when it comes to these portals of course. Since this one only just went dead a few cycles ago, the danger of falling into the Crucible having just passed, both sides are certain to expect the other to be showing up to claim what they can and prevent the enemy from gaining an advantage.

As such, a Decepticon air freighter is inbound from the northwest, accompanied by Blast Off and Valour. It would appear on the sensor array not long after Healthpoint finishes her systems check.

Below, although the danger of an active portal has gone, the terrain is still quite treacherous as the air is still unnaturally hot and several streams of molten metal flow down the mountain and around the facility of interest.

Blast Off has posed:
Blast Off soars ahead of the freighter, since he's better and faster (and probably more sentient) that it. The Combaticon shuttle scans the area, gathering data as well as looking for enemies. His weapons are already on line, since trouble is to be expected here.

Valour has posed:
Valour, on the other hand, sticks close to the freighter, weapons armed and scanners on high. While he trusts Blast Off to sniff out any lurking Autobots, Valour still stays back a bit to cover the transport in case things get hot quickly. He keeps banter to a minimum, leaving the radio clear for emergency transmissions.

Optimus Prime has posed:
If Optimus notices Healthpoint's overeager nature, he doesn't call any attention to it. He just nods, returning the salute right before he hears -

"Optimus, we've got inbound Decepticons. Looks like they had the same idea."

"Perhaps, but that may mean they weren't here already. So it's to be a race of sorts, it seems. Very well. Autobots! Prepare to drop, and remember the information in the scouting report - the heat has receded to a point, but it's still dangerous down there. Drop, land, check your gear and report in on landing. I want everyone in one piece."

Turning, Optimus Prime activates the side hatch for the shuttle. The hot wind blasts into and along the side of the shuttle, but the Prime pays it little mind. "Ready Autobots? Three, two... roll out!" He leaps, hurtling through the air and toward the treacherous peak below. He lands with a heavy clank, half in a crouch, and draws his iconic ion rifle.

"Autobots, report in and move! We don't have long before the Decepticons are on us! Eyes forward, channels clear. Don't lose contact with one another in this place." That said, he begins to hustle forward.

Healthpoint has posed:
Healthpoint's expression goes deadpan. Why did she even imagine that the Decepticons wouldn't be after the same thing? She approaches the open hatch and leaps through after Optimus. Of course, she doesn't drop all the way down. Being a flier herself her four wings fan out from her back and slow her descent. She lands carefully and with her syringe launcher at the ready. She touches down only a few moments after the others, then takes off at a full run for the facility. "Healthpoint here! Heading inside!"

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive tranforms as he jumps out and rides the air down in hovercar mode before using his repulsars for a nice landing. He does a neat little spin before tranforming again and looking around. "Hyperdrive ready to go..." He makes a point to follow healthpoint inside.

Deadlock has posed:
Yes, yes Blast Off is faster than the freighter. But it is bigger than him. Deadlock is on it. << Okay mechs, the job is simple, we get in, we drive the Bots out, and ideally we capture this place and set up a defensive perimeter. Barring that we deploy drones to grab the portal stuff--tech's top priority. Barring THAT we destroy it and make sure that if we can't get it, no one can. >> Of course, Blast Off is of the same rank as he is, so if he didn't agree with that plan he technically isn't obligated to follow it. Not that Deadlock cares to remind the Combaticon of that.

He scans the facility below and spots Optimus. << Good Primus, they've got Prime on the case? Hmm...something tells me they're up to something more than just taking for the sake of keeping us from it. >>

However, Deadlock doesn't linger much further, moving to open the cargo bay and jump down himself. He lands on the roof of the facility. "Well if it isn't the Prime himself." Deadlock taunts. "I thought you'd be too busy trying to make politicians happy."

Blast Off has posed:
Oh, the Combaticon is well aware, but Deadlock's plan sounds fine. Let HIM deal with people, that leaves Blast Off to engage in SNIPING. He spots the Autobots and sends a transmission back, warning them and providing coordinates, then he angles in for a shot. "<< If Optimus Prime is here they certainly have shown that they *want* this. Pretty badly. We'll just have to dissapoint them. >>" As Deadlock distracts Prime, the Combaticon sniper prepares a shot on the Autobot. As for the heat? With his heavy heat shields, Blast Off doesn't feel much of the heat, but he sure intends to BRING some. He aims his lasers and fires.

Valour has posed:
As soon as Valour spots the hated Prime, it's all he can do not to break off from the freighter and launch an attack. However, orders are orders, and Valour isn't one to steal glory from a superior officer, especially when there are higher priorities to address. Instead Valour stays with the freighter until it is in position, and then swoops down to transform and enter the complex, pursuing Healthpoint and Hyperdrive.

Optimus Prime has posed:
With his forces accounted for, Optimus focuses on getting to and into the facility. Unfortunately, the Decepticons have other plans. He comes to a halt when Deadlock calls him out, keeping his ion rifle ready and steady. If the Decepticons want to duel with words, then he is more than happy to engage.

"That shows just how little you know of me, Decepticon, if that's how you think I operate. Stand down, this does not have to end in violence tod--" That's when Blast Off cuts him off, the shot ringing out as it blasts him in the shoulder. He takes a step back to scan the horizon.

"Nevermind," he says, rolling back behind some debris. He snaps off a transmission to Healthpoint and Hyperdrive as he searches for where the shot came from, observing Valour going into the facility in the process. <<Healthpoint, Hyperdrive, move on the technology as quick as you can, but be careful. Valour is right behind you. I'll distract the Decepticons out here. If I can contain the two that I see, I will.>> His eyes narrow, and he fires where he's almost certain Blast Off shot from.

Healthpoint has posed:
Healthpoint hears the shot outside and slides to a stop just inside the main door of the facility. "Optimus!" She turns, intent on reinforcing him. But, the order is given to proceed inside and secure the technology. She vents softly before heading deeper inside and reflecting momentarily on the irony of a Decepticon being named Valour. <<"Understood!">> she radios back, then looks toward Hyperdrive. <<"We should split up for now. We'll be able to cover more ground.">> she radios to him, then motions that she will take the left before she heads off. <<"Avoid combat if possible. This is a search and recover mission.">> she adds, perhaps forgetting that she doesn't actually have any rank.

She does fire a shot, but it is more to slow Valour down than to actually try and hurt anyone. Not that her syringe shots are all that dangerous anyway. "Get out of here! This is no place for such an ironically named transformer!"

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive rolls his optics as he's told to keep going. He looks for the stuff he's supposed to be grabbing. <<Yell if you need me. You know yer the one who should really be grabbin this stuff. Yer bigger more medtechy and all. Of course Valour might just enjoy usin me as target practice.>> He uses his small size and speed to good use to try and get to the goods and start taking care of them.

Deadlock has posed:
Heading off to the left, Healthpoint and Valour find what appears to be a warehouse room full of fuel cells. It must have been where the portal's output was sent to, as there is some kind of conduit in the wall on the far side that is stained with energon that was flowing once but has run dry now. It's too much for any one mech to carry all at once though...they'll need to drive the Decepticons out before they get a chance to capture all of it.

At the same time, Hyperdrive ends up finding what is definitely the now-inactive portal, a massive ring-shaped structure. Again, disassembling it for transport will take some doing. Which is probably why both sides were planning to capture the place and drive out the enemy at least long enough to get -that- part done.

Deadlock laughs dersively at Optimus. "All this time, all this fighting and you -still- think you can fix things by talking. You're even more delusional than I thought." With that, he enters the facility through a sky window just in time to see Hyperdrive rush by. "Where do you think you're going so fast, Autobot?" he sneers, and opens fire on the mech.

Blast Off has posed:
"<< Ha! >>" Blast Off retorts as Optimus Prime takes a shot- and MISSES as he avoids the incoming blast! "<< I thought you were supposed to be a fairly decent sharpshooter, Prime? Another case of exaggerated hero worship from deluded sparks? Figures. Here, let me show you what true accuracy is! >>" With that, the shuttle veers down, trying to stay covered in among the smoke as he takes aim and fires agin.

Valour has posed:
Valour ducks back to avoid Healthpoint's attack, allowing the strange ranged-syringe attack to impact harmlessly into a doorframe. He ducks back around the corner, activating his laser sword. "I do not wish to harm a medic, but I cannot allow the Autobots to get a hold of this technology. Haven't you done enough damage to this world? Surrender, and I will do everything in my power to ensure you get a fair trial for your warcrimes against Cybertron."

Optimus Prime has posed:
Optimus Prime takes another shot as he observes Deadlock heading in. He ducks back as dust sprays around him. He ignores the wound to his other shoulder, radioing, <<Hyperdrive, Healthpoint, the other Decepticon has gone into the facility. I will assist you as soon as I can.>> Raising the charge on his rifle, Prime glances over his cover, which doesn't appear to be doing him much good, and replies, "I know that voice, and that bravado. You're in my way, Blast Off..."

He rolls out from behind his cover, now exposed, and aims with the benefit of a wider field of vision, "And we both know what that means." He opens fire.

Healthpoint has posed:
Healthpoint is actually taken aback at the accusation. "Us?! Whatever we have done, it pales in comparison to what Megatron and you Decepticons have done!" When Valor deploys his laser sword, Healthpoint clenches her fists and a pair of scalpels slide forth from her wrists. At least, they look like scalpels, but they are the size of a short sword. She then pushes her glasses up and frowns at Valour. "I will not allow you to take anything here for your nefarious plans. If you leave now, there is no need for a confrontation." she says, the light glinting off the razor sharp and carefully polished stainless steel of her weapons as she takes on a ready stance that makes it clear she intends to defend the energy cells.

<<"Optimus, sir, I have found the store room. I should be able to carry out all the power cells, but it seems I will have to go through Valour.">> she radios to her comrades.

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive yelps as his foot is shot and he ends up doing a forward roll in the direction he was already heading. You know what else rolls? Flashbang grenades. Especially when they are launched in Deadlock's direction as he continues his momentum and gets back to his feet in a fluid motion. A grin appears on his face. "Hope this keeps ya from havin ta worry bout where I'm goin!" <<Prime err Optimus Prime sir I found the portal and this guy who shot my foot I just had that foot replaced and hopefully he likes my flashbangs oh yeah if ya heard a boom it was me well it wasn't me it was my flashbang but I'm the one who dropped it after I mighta yelped when my foot was shot and ya know that was really rude of him ta shoot me in the foot but yeah the portal's here and if ya hear me yelp again that might not be a good thing but hopefully he'll be too busy ta think about shootin me again and I'll try and keep him busy until someone comes so don't take too long cause I really don't want ta spend more time in the medical bay!"

Deadlock has posed:
Deadlock grins with satisfaction when Hyperdrive is shot in the foot, but wasn't expecting the flash grenade. "Argh! Is that all you've got puny Autobot?" he taunts, his vision still impaired. But that doesn't stop him from just firing randomly in many directions in the hopes of hitting the mech.

Blast Off has posed:
"<< That's the idea, Optimus 'Prime'. You Autobots are all show and lip service, never actually any substance! >>" Pride cometh before a fall, so they say. Blast Off is about to discover this, as he arrogantly takes another shot, striking Prime and generally feeling quite superior. Tsk, Prime's not so scary. Lots of bark and little bite, it seems, hahah-OW. Suddenly, the shuttle isn't chuckling to himself as a shot strikes true, seeking him out through the smoke and sky and piercing into his fusealge. "<< Gaahhhh! >>" Now trailing smoke of his own making, the shuttle, wobbles violently, trying to maintain control... just as one of Deadlock's random shots busts through the roof and strikes him for almost as much damage. "<< Arrrrgh! >>" FRAG.

The shuttle veers down further out of control, forced to land a moment until he gets his bearings again. He heads for the top of the building, near where Deadlock was earlier, and transforms before outright crashing. With a THUD and a few rolls, ow ow ow, he is finally able to get to his feet. "Frrrrag." For now, he doesn't fire, instead trying to see what's going on beneath. "<< Deadlock, Valour, take care of those Autobots, they're shooting me through the roof now!! >>"

Valour has posed:
Valour sees Healthpoint deploy her scalpels, and he frowns and shakes his head in disgust. "Leave it to the Autobots to corrupt even the healing arts into a force for destruction. I gave you a chance to surrender, but I cannot allow the Autobots to use this fuel to continue your war of planetary domination. This will give me no pleasure, but I am forced to stop you." Keeping a wary optic on those scalpels, Valour spins his sword and issues a few test feints before rushing right and slashing down, cutting at the back of Healthpoint's knee in an attempt to cripple without killing her.

Optimus Prime has posed:
Optimus Prime doesn't respond to Blast Off after his shot strikes true, and he watches the shuttle go down toward the roof. He lifts a hand to the side of his helmet.

<<Understood, both of you. Do what you can. Once I drive off Blast Off, I will join you inside. Be careful.>> Looking up, Optimus Prime charges toward the facility and leaps, grabbing hold of the wall and flipping himself up, over the edge and landing on the rooftop. His blue eyes narrow dangerously in Blast Off's direction.

"If you know what's good for you," Prime says sternly, "You'll take the hint and go." He charges Blast Off as he stands, "In fact, I'll help you get some altitude!" Once near, he rears his leg back and then kicks, going for a Combaticon field goal!

Healthpoint has posed:
That hit to her knee leaves a scorched slash, though not too deep. Healthpoint is forced down on that knee, forcing her to look up at Valour for a moment. "Before you pass judgement on us, you should take a look at your own faction's leadership and actions." she says before attacking. She rises in a spinning slash, her own blades aimed at Valour's arms in a similar attempt to remove him from the fight without harming him too much. He has so far shown much more honor that she expected, and she is wondering if misinformation is the only reason he is working with the Decepticons or if he is merely acting in order to demoralize his foes. "Keeping others from harm is better than picking up the pieces after, and I will do my best to ensure that I prevent as much harm as possible, even for you Decepticons. If that means using my skills for combat, so be it!"

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive laughs as the shot goes skyward. Hyperdrive grins wickedly and runs again, trying to get a good shot against Deadlock. "Not sure what ya were aimin fer but I don't think it was me. I can try ta show ya how it's done though." He points his gun at Deadlock and fires. "Ya might want ta leave before ya get hurt."

Deadlock has posed:
Deadlock has no idea if that hit anything or anyone at all. He heard it go through the roof, but right now he has more important concerns as his vision finally clears up. He glares at Hyperdrive as a blast hits him in the shoulder, though he barely even winces. If he knows how to do anything, it's tolerate pain. "How what's done?" he sneers. "Potshots? A few scratches? What are you fresh out of primary programming school?" He raises his blaster and fires again at Hyperdrive, this time aiming for the head! Well not that he wasn't doing that last time...

Blast Off has posed:
Blast Off orients himself- just in time to see Optimus Prime jump onto the roof and come running after him. ....Frag. The Combaticon stares, legs braced wide apart, arms hunched, violet optics going a bit pale as Prime's large frame comes rushing in. Blast Off is no close-combat fighter... this isn't what he's good at, at all. He suddenly realizes how mismatched he is here. "Errr... I..." The shuttleformer blinks, stepping back then suddenly turns around and starts trying to run and dodge, try to get a bit of space somehow, firing his ionic blaster haphazardly backwards as he does, but Prime's on him quick- and sends him airborne again with a swift kick in the aft. "AIIIIIIIIGH!!"

He does indeed go blasting off again, complete with a twinkle caused by metal glinting through smoky sky. Eventually, through the smoke, a transforming CHK-zhk-ZHKK-Chhhk can be heard as Blast Off changes back to shuttle mode to suit his new environment.

Valour has posed:
Valour nods at Healthpoint's words. "Very well," he allows. "I will consider you then an honourable foe, and grant you an honourable death. It is good to meet such a dedicated warrior in battle." He nods his head slightly, deflecting her scalpels with two quick parries of his blade. Spinning, he lashes out a rocket-boot at her head, attempting to knock her out so he can deal with the other Autobots in turn. For all his words, he's still not likely to kill her if he doesn't have to.

Optimus Prime has posed:
Optimus Prime takes the shots on his way to Blast Off, and once he sends the Combaticon into the air, he chooses not to pursue. Ultimately, stalking Blast Off isn't his actual goal, so he turns away from the now airborne Combaticon and jogs toward the hole in the roof Deadlock's shot made that hit the shuttle earlier. Holstering his rifle on his back, Prime activates his energon axe, the brilliant golden-orange weapon flaring to life, and he cuts his way into the building.

He falls in, landing in the midst of the battle between Hyperdrive and Deadlock. He stares at the Decepticon, his eyes slits of shimmering blue, his axe humming off to the side, and says:

"Decepticon. I'm going to give you the same offer I gave Blast Off. Leave, if you know what's good for you." Then he rises to his full height and takes a heavy step forward. A brief glance is spared to Hyperdrive. "Hyperdrive," he says quickly, "Go assist Healthpoint. I'll handle this."

Healthpoint has posed:
There is a resounding CLANK as Healthpoint takes a kick to the head. She is sent stumbling by the impact, a noticable dent in her otherwise pristine plating. "I may not be the best fighter, but it will take a lot more than that to kill me!" she says as she deploys her syringe launcher, aimed at Valour's torso, and fires one of her needle-tipped missiles at the Decepticon. It is unlikely to do much damage even if it hits...but that isn't really the point of such an attack.

It is hard to miss all the crashing and such happining across the way. <<"Optimus, Hyperdrive! Are you two alright?">> she radios.

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive nods to Prime and immediately goes to Healthpoint's side. "Hey, is he botherin ya?" A bright grin appears on his face as he looks at Valour. "Ya know it isn't nice ta hit femmes or medics and especially not nice ta hit THIS medic especially when I'm around cause I feel kinda responsible fer her and either way I'd like ya ta know that yer not welcome here and ya aughta go home before Optimus comes this way cause he seems somewhat vexed at yer continued peristance in pursuin this course of action but that's entirely yer call but I think ya aughta go!" And with that the little mech fires at Valour.

Deadlock has posed:
"Hey! Don't you turn your back on me you little--!" Deadlock starts to shout at Hyperdrive as the mech runs off, but suddenly he has much -bigger- problems to worry about. The Prime himself jumps down through the roof. "Slag," he mutters. Time for plan B.

"Oh, Prime." He smirks. "Always believing the best about everyone, even your worst enemies. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten you killed yet. But fine," he says as he holds up what appears to be some kind of remote into which he enters some kind of code. "I would hate to overstay my welcome, anyway." He transforms and starts peeling out of there. Immediately a lockon can be detected--a missile has dropped out of the freighter, which apparently doubled as a bomber. It packs enough explosive to destroy the facility. Although it -could- be intercepted, anyone attempting to do so would have to act -fast-.

Blast Off has posed:
Blast Off is SEETHING. Also very sore and embarrassed and kinda scared of Prime. At this point, with his system scans informing him that his health is rapidly detoriorating, he just wants to load up some energon and GO - and not have to pursue Prime into some cramped enclosed space where he will continue to be at a disadvantage. So the shuttle flies back and lands on the building again, not knowing Deadlock just set a bomb on them all. "<< Hurry up, Valour. >>" His cargo bay door is open and once Valour and some energon are inside he's outta there. Maybe even before, once he notices the missile coming his way. Hurry up, Valour.

Valour has posed:
Valour kicks Healthpoint to the ground, and then twists to avoid her swift counter-attack. He cocks his head slightly at something he hears over the radio, and then gets distracted by the motormouth Micromachine Mech. He was about to warn Healthpoint about Deadlocks' plan to blow up the place, but after being hit by Hyperdrive's annoying attack... well, somehow he's feeling a little less like giving these bots a second chance. Fading back, he grabs what fuel cells he can, and then activates his boot jets and simply leaves these Autobots to die when Blast Off and Deadlock destroy the facility.

Optimus Prime has posed:
Optimus Prime would normally be relieved to see the Decepticons retreating, but he noticed that Deadlock did something before fleeing. He looks around, quickly, and concludes that something is about to happen. Either they have the place rigged or they've engineered some explosive fallback plan. Either way, Optimus doesn't have time to mull it over, and he snaps off a radio transmission:

<<Healthpoint, Hyperdrive, get out of here immediately! I don't know what the Decepticons have done, but they're not retreating out of courtesy. I want you both clear, NOW!>> He, himself, transforms, and goes barreling through the facility in his heavily armored hauler mode, knocking anything in his way that won't accidentally blow him up with it. Once outside, Prime transforms back into his robot mode and looks around. That's when he spots the missile rocketing toward the facility.

"I shouldn't be surprised," he says bitterly, drawing his ion rifle and aiming. This may be a long shot, but it's one he's willing to take.

Healthpoint has posed:
Healthpoint is surprised and relieved when Hyperdrive appears and opens fire on Valour. She prepares to fire again as Valour grabs some power cells and makes a run for it, but Optimus's warning spurs her into other actions. She quickly grabs an armload of those cells for herself and runs out after Valour. "Thanks Hyperdrive!" she says as she runs. "Now let's get out of here!" As soon as there is room she transforms as well, securing the power cells in her med bay and taking off in her quad-rotor VTOL mode.

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive follows Healthpoint more than listening obediantly or anything. He grins at her. "Well no one needs a scraper in order ta be brought home. I guess it's a success."

Deadlock has posed:
Optimus is able to act quickly enough as he sees the missile coming. And it's a good thing his aim is right on target. It strikes the projectile before it hits the ground, although not quite far enough away for everything to be -completely- clear of the blast. Some of the roof gets blown off, but it's mostly still intact thanks to the Prime's heroic act of the day.

As the explosion lights up the sky, the bomber and the rest of the Con forces fly off and disappear beyond the horizon. It seems the Autobots have won the day...this time.
