Profile

Back in the day, JAZZ was known for being a speedster on the race track and was a household name all across Cybertron. Eventually, though, Jazz took the retirement route and launched a second career with the Cybertronian Security Force where he was billed as a cultural investigator. After exhaust hit the fan, though, Jazz stuck by the side of Optimus Prime as the Autobots came into their own. He knows the intimate details of cultures across the galaxy - beyond his scholarly interest, Jazz just intuitively "gets" things and assimilates quickly. This innate adaptability and cosmopolitan bent make him a versatile special agent who always pulls off dangerous missions with a characteristic flair. Extremely intelligent and skilled, Jazz is an expert in sociology, history and culture. In root mode, he wields a photon rifle and shoulder mounted flamethrower. In vehicle mode, he has a full spectrum beacon and powerful speakers that can create a disorienting light and sound display that reaches up to 180 decibels in volume. His rear spoiler allows him limited gliding ability if he makes a jump in car mode. In root mode, an energy grapple helps him overcome difficult terrain. Jazz's voracious appetite for new cultural nuances can sometimes distract him during a mission but he always finds a way to get the job done.

Background

Jazz was a household name on the Ibex Racing Circuit. Their top racer at one point, Jazz was known across the galaxy as one of the fastest racers to ever take to the track. Combined with a sense of style and flair that made him exciting to watch. He brought something special to the world of racing and it was something that the universe ate up.

Jazz loved being a racer. He loved the excitement and the attention it brought. That's why it almost broke him when he found out that the Ibex Athletic Association was corrupt. They were fixing races and using blackmail to get the racers to do what was in the best interest of the IAA. Jazz couldn't let himself succumb to these ways and pushed himself into early retirement, purposefully crashing and putting himself out of racing condition for good.

It was a decision that Jazz has yet to regret.

Retirement was kind to Jazz and his charismatic nature kept him in the optics of the public for some time after his career ending 'injury'. It was during this time that he was approached by Delta Magnus with an offer to help get his function changed. Jazz didn't mind sacrificing his caste status, he was more worried about becoming an effective and useful member of Cybertron's society.

Jazz became a ranking officer in the Cybertonian Security Forces. As a cultural investigator Jazz took on special assignments and operations that often included the investigation into various cultures and societies. He excelled at this and when the time for War came, Jazz had already chosen his side.

Jazz became a member of the Autobots and chose to stand beside his friends, Optimus Prime and Prowl. Since their more focused creation and development, Jazz has stepped up to lead the Autobots Intelligence Division (AID) and provides the Autobots with the spy they need to keep the Decepticons on their toes. Jazz combines natural charm with his top notch skills to put himself in a position to actually do some good in this universe. And to do it with style.

Skills & Abilities

Adaptability: The key to Jazz's excellence is his ability to adapt to almost any situation. His creative and improvisational style doesn't fit neatly into any one box and thus it is difficult to predict him. He's unorthodox in the way he does things to the point that they are decidedly 'Jazz' and this is what makes him a crucial asset to the Autobots. Jazz prides himself on always being ready to deal with whatever situation comes across his desk. He always finds a way.

Agility: Jazz is small and wiry, for a Cybertronian, and that gives him an advantage when it comes to things like agility and acrobatics. Jazz is known to be the one leaping and flipping over Decepticons or swinging through the air on his energy grapple. Jazz has made a name for himself with specialized combat moves that are just overflowing with his style and personality. And while he may not have invented the art of urbanscape travel known as Carkour, it certainly feels like he did.

Carkour: An all terrain method of transportation that utilizes quick transformations, momentum and acrobatics. Masters of Carkour, such as Jazz, are capable of performing stylish feats of agility without circuit-breaking. Whether it be running up walls, jumping across gaps between rooftops or grinding down railings, this acquired skill is something that takes cycles worth of training and a buckets of touch up paint.

Cultural Expertise: One of Jazz's primary strengths is the fact that he's very well versed in social and cultural sciences. He studies cultures on a regular basis and his previous career as a racer has allowed him the history and the space needed to have met and explored cultures across the universe. Jazz's cultural knowledge allows him to serve as a diplomat and a 'scout ahead' type that is often called upon to take care of social business.

Dancing: Jazz is, point blank, an incredible and versatile dancer. He has mastered dance styles from across the universe. Everything from street dancing to the more formal types have been incorporated into his memory banks and he's been known to cut a rug on more than a few occasions.

High Speed Antics: Jazz is well versed in doing things at high speeds, whether it be racing or an epic vehicle chase. He's capable of performing theatrical stunts, combative and evasive manuevers as well as also just cruising. Not everyone can handle high speeds or even know how to function in an effective manner. Jazz doesn't have this problem.

Instrumenatlist: Jazz has an uncanny ability to pick up musical instruments and play them. It only takes him a couple of tries to learn how to play a musical instrument before he can start playing them with relative ease. This does not put him in the realm of masterhood, but he can play instruments like nobody's business.

Krav Mec-Ha: Jazz is self-taught in the street fighting martial arts style of Krav Mec-Ha. It is an improvisational and informal fighting style that incorporates elements of boxing and wrestling with a mech's purpose, personality and function. While Krav Mec-Ha does have some foundational elements how it is used varies from mech to mech or femme to femme. No two Krav Mec-Ha artists are the same. Jazz's particular style incorporates acrobatics, evasive tactics and counters. Movement is the key to Jazz's success as a Krav Mec-Ha artist.

Marksmech: Jazz has a keen optic for hitting his targets. He's well versed and practiced in striking his targets with a variety of weapons. He's a crackshot with any firearm of any style and functionality. His expertise in this extends to moving targets, as well. Jazz just knows how to shoot.

Team Player: If there was ever a 'Bot that could work well with others it is Jazz. Jazz has the distinct ability to help others be the best that they can be. During combat situations, he's the one with the assist to give the powerhouses or the snipers the opening they need. He's the distraction. He's the equalizer.

Transformation Prowess: Jazz is equally skilled in the use of both of his modes. His Root Mode and his Vehicle Mode might as well be one in the same when it comes to Jazz. He has also mastered the art of transforming back and forth between the modes during combat or other hostile situations. Jazz's swag crosses the transformation barrier.

Situational Awareness: Jazz is almost always aware of his surroundings. This may be a combination of his racing skills, his time in the security forces and also being tricked out with a bunch of sensors but it all boils down to Jazz knowing what's on the horizon, what's coming around the corner and how to get away from it. This is why it always seems like Jazz is a step or two ahead. He pays attention.

Spy: Espionage. Sabotage. Infiltration. Stealth. Enertinis. Jazz is an expert in all of these spy areas and then some. He's capable of infiltrating enemy bases, ordering drinks, royaling casinos and even finding a way to stop Cybertron shattering missiles from being launched. He can get in, get information and get out with just as much ease as he could win races back in the day. He excels at being a spy. He has to. After all, everybody knows he's one.

Swagger: Ain't nobody got swagger like Jazz. Just sayin'.

Wordsmith: Jazz has a way with words. His silver vocal processor combines with his gift of gab and gives him the boost he needs to be an efficient leader and friend to those that fight alongside him. He mixes his words with his charm to interrogate without intimidation. He uses wit and banter to throw his enemies off their game. He's persuasively convincing and can even effectively verbally stall when faced with a problem that someone else needs to fix.

Weaknesses

Culture Addiction: Jazz is sort of obsessed with cultures and the socities of the universe. He can often become distracted when on a mission or an assignment by things that he doesn't know or wants to know about. This is also one of the way that he often finds himself waltzing into traps. He doesn't learn, either. Must be deep in his programming.

Life: Jazz values life and will do whatever it takes to protect it. This means he will go out of his way to not kill his enemies and even risk his life to save them. Jazz wants peace for his Cybertronian brothers and sisters not death. This isn't to say that he hasn't taken a life before but it is something that is not done lightly.

Small Fry: Jazz is small and this tends to put him at odds when he's trying to take down stronger and more powerful enemies. He's not as armored as some of the other members of the Autobots and patching him up is almost a weekly job. It's safe to say that a large and excessively strong mech could, in the right situation, simply tear him in half.

Stylin' & Profilin': Not to say that Jazz is a complete and utter showoff but he's addicted to doing things with a bit of style and flair to them. This tends to give his enemies openings to exploit. While Jazz may not hesitate during combat situations, he does tend to do more than is necessary for what needs to be done. This puts him at teamwork odds with more matter-of-fact and straight to the point Autobots. Also, clever Decepticons could easily find ways to exploit this and put him in situations that clash with his showoff style.
