|Alt Mode||Suborbital Droneship|
No one can say for certain why Nightlash behaves the way she does. Some might simply believe her to be a mercenary for hire, but in truth it's nothing to do about lining her own pockets and far more to do about simple amusement. A self-diagnosed agent of chaos, she holds no true loyalty to any given side and instead follows whims of fancy and proverbial rolls of the dice to make decisions for her. Some days she might be your best ally and provide wonderfully classy intel, other days she might just lead you into a firefight to watch the explosions that result in rapt fascination. Still, if one knows how to approach her and play to her interests, even chaos can become predictable.
Nightlash was originally built to be an observer of Cybertron, keeping in the upper atmosphere and utilizing a drone to safely explore and scout the more remote and dangerous regions of the planet. The role and mission itself was, under nominal circumstances, dull and boring, but as with others who shared surveying roles, Nightlash developed ways to keep herself entertained on missions, often times pushing the envelope and ignoring orders from time to time in favor of risky maneuvers. Of course, those instances turned into fun stories and bragging rights at the local dives with her fellow aerial aces, which usually carved the way for more daring moves.
However, under ideal circumstances, the mission was, for the most part, a benign activity which, while dangerous in nature was mostly harmless.Fly to the waypoint, release the surveillance drone, recover the drone, and return to report. This lasted until, during normal and routine operations over the Rust Sea, the drone lost contact with the host and Nightlash opted to go in after and recover it.
The anomaly that caused the drone itself to crash was a rather brutal storm that kicked up an intense cloud of the corrosive gasses over the Rust Sea, and during her recovery effort, Nightlash lost control and crashed in a remote region of bayous on the outer fringes of the Sea itself. Prolonged exposure in a weakened physical state left a lasting impact.
The Rust-Sea Incident was both a lesson in survival and a study in the degradation of the mind. Unable to fly or move properly, Nightlash was left to practice improvised survival skills in the midst of the storm itself,attempting to self-treat injuries sustained in the crash and fend off the more ravenous of the wild denizens of the Rust Sea Bayous with a holdout blaster and her own wits. However, due to the harsh nature of the region itself, and the lack of a functional recovery beacon, her stay was extended beyond reasonable timeframes and the disaster took its toll.
Part Post-Traumatic Stress, and part simple malfunction, Nightlashs mental state degraded over the course of her stay within the bayous until a proper recovery team was able to locate and extract the fallen flier. Physical injuries and damage were both repaired, but any sense of operational capacity was soon lost due to her degraded state of mind.
When the Senate reviewed possible candidates for follow-on operations and retention, her profile showed she was unreliable and a flight risk, as well as carrying severe mental degradation due to prolonged exposure to harsher climates.
Summarily, she was given superficial honors for services rendered and then pushed into retirement and forgotten, cast into the slums of Cybertron to fend for herself.
In this time, she learned tried to reclaim her earlier days as a proper scout by operating in areas under the pay of underground organizations and law enforcement agencies, putting her information up for the highest bidder, but also not minding if both sides paid for the same information. More than a few conflicts resulted, all of which she was nearby to witness, and the habit of keeping herself entertained in this manner stuck well after the Senates downfall and into the Autobot-Decepticon Conflict.
Skills & Abilities[edit source]
Skilled at being totally random at times, and explosive at other times.
Limited Agility : Built for flight at excessively high speeds, Nightlash suffers from agility in the sense of aerial maneuverability. She can run in a straight line like no one else in the sky, but ask her to turn during that and those speeds will first have to drop sharply, and her turning radius is still very large. Certainly, a proper tetrajet could fly circles around her in a dogfight.
Chaotic Mind : Nightlash cannot resist urges, either good or bad, and will act out on them without even thinking them through properly. She is not distracted so much as her mind is flighty, and any sense of impulse control is difficult to sustain in situations. Most of the time, she will regret these actions in spite of being unable to keep from doing them.
Light Armor : Built primarily around using speed as a defense, Nightlash cannot take sustained damage, especially from heavier armaments. Too much damage in the wrong places can also hinder her ability to achieve higher speeds due to impeding on aerodynamics and increasing sources of drag, which can cause additional damage if care is not taken.
Easily Coerced : While chaotic and unpredictable in nature, the right mind might not find it difficult to easily coerce Nightlash into acting favorably in certain circumstances. Using her unstable nature against others is easy to do when one knows the right buttons to press, especially since her own ability to play out and visualize the long-term impact of actions is nonexistent.
