Vortex is a whirling dervish of psychotic proportions. A sadomasochist, he delights in the mental and physical torture of his victims almost as much as he enjoys the same being done to him. Despite this, he's an affable and social mech, often getting his information from nothing more than idle conversation to be tucked away and used later. He's got a soft spot for his fellow Combaticons and is fiercely protective, if not a tad possessive.

Background[edit source]

Vortex was built a plane and this never sat well with him. But due to Functionist society, he was stuck in the body he was given. He eventually got the body he desired - deals were made to pull it off- but the results of being trapped within a frame that just didn't fit or feel right has had its repercussions- self-loathing and hatred of Functionists for example.

Vortex found a proper place for himself among the Combaticons and felt like he belonged somewhere- with someone, or in the case someones. Despite being unruly at best, he'll follow the Combaticons anywhere. Into mercenary work, into a whiteout cell, and into the Decepticon rankings. He especially liked the merc work and continues to allow his services to be bought- so long as he runs operations by Onslaught first, of course.

Skills & Abilities[edit source]

Interrogations: Vortex has intimate knowledge on how one's mind and body work and he uses that knowledge to coax information he desires out of his victims. There are few who can outdo the sadist when it comes to breaking a mech.

Manipulation: Vortex is a good actor, which he uses to get the results he wants out of others. He's not silver-tongued like Swindle, but he doesn't need to be- he doesn't need to convince anyone of anything because, when he's done with them, they'll have convinced themselves.

Devil in the Details: Vortex notices the small things. The faint twitch of the lips, the way energon has been spattered- little things that lead to answers and information. And when dealing with bots like Swindle and Onslaught who can do long cons and broad plans, having a mech to poke and prod may be annoying but finessing those details always works out for the best.

Unhinged Intimidation: Its hard to tell if Vortex is actually insane or not. One moment he's cool and collected, methodical and focused. And the next, he's all over the place, cackling like a maniac as he paints the walls with lifeblood. He's been known to make some opponents flee or hide rather than face him, whereas those who stand their ground get a healthy dose of fear or are at least greatly unsettled.

Erratic Aerial: If the rootmode assault of possible insanity wasn't enough, Vortex's alt mode will surely churn the tanks. Its hard to watch him fly, it makes some get motion sickness just watching him. This makes him highly evasive in the air not to mention that his rotors going at top speeds can make cyclones and wind tunnels that can lift bots and trains off the ground. But better to watch his hurl-inducing display than be a part of it.

Team Player: With all his time in the Combaticons, Vortex is actually quite good at being a team player- even outside of his team. Anyone else's failure to comply to his views of being proper within a team earns his ire and quite possibly loses a limb.

Weaknesses[edit source]

Hyperactive: Vortex is intelligent, enough so that a lack of mental stimulation will make him act out. He can be all over the place, easily distracted, you name it. This need to stave off boredom often lands him in trouble.

Lack of Self-Preservation: Vortex will often fight until he's no longer physically capable- much to his teammate's and medics' annoyance. It seems he cares very little of his own life, especially with how fiercely he fights to protect the lives of his team.

Battle Bloodlust: Vortex is dangerous when cool and collected. He's just as dangerous when enraged and high off of his sadistic glee- he just doesn't tend to think things through in this state. Instead he just goes, goes, goes until he's outta target or out himself.

Delicate Appendages: Vortex's rotors are highly sensitive, allowing him to feel if one is sneaking up behind him along with the state of the atmosphere. However, his flying habits put a strain on his rotors and they have a habit of fracturing and shattering if not treated. They also bend and break easily, rendering him flightless.

Petulant: Vortex, for some reason, feels a need to do the opposite of what's asked of him from most bots. Don't touch it? Now he's going to shove it. Clean this up? How about he cuts off his own leg just to put footprints on the ceiling? He'll also accept dares on a dime- doesn't how many times he was lightly poisoned, if Mixmaster dares him to drink a new brew, guess what he's doing.

Sensory Deprivation: Vortex is fearless and obnoxious and clever and backhanded and cruel... And he has a deeply guarded secret, one only his brothers are aware of. He is not afraid of death or pain- the only thing he fears is complete sensory deprivation. He doesn't accept anesthetics and feeling numb puts him on edge and near panic. Take away everything and he begins to quickly breakdown. But so long as no one knows, he's safe.

Combaticon Loyalty: Vortex will do anything for his Combaticons. A strength that can be easily used against both him and his teammates.
