How Monsters React to Explosions
Date of Scene: 02 December 2017
Location: Undergrid
Synopsis: Blurr and Hyperdrive encounter Nightlash, then fight a monster in the Undergrid.
Cast of Characters: Blurr, Nightlash, Hyperdrive

Blurr has posed:
Blurr has been spending some time scouting various uncharted regions of the Undergrid lately. Well, not -actually- uncharted, but since the fall of the Senate, a lot of it has changed, and a lot of it is still in ruins. There's been...some evidence that the old Cybertronian government kept a few things stashed away deep underground. Things that would be very useful right now, in the midst of a civil war.

So the speedy Autobot is racing across an old expressway that arcs across an open area that exposes the many tiers of structures that were built down here so many vorns ago. Some of it might even be from the days of the 13 primes, who knows?

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive grumbles softly to himself as he finds himself speeding along trying to keep up with Blurr. "Are you just looking for someone to pretend to race with or are you actually needin me fer something. Cause I am tryin ta study when I'm not hanging with Swivel who is tryin ta get me ta pass. Yer lucky she had something she had ta be doin or I'd been still busy studyin...." He sighs pretty sure he's talking to himself at this point as he tries to maintain as close a distance as he can without burning up his systems.

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash hates flying underground, or anywhere the sky's not easily available for quick escapes and the sorts. Still, sometimes it's just the best way to go from point-A to point-B without running into annoyances.

EXCEPT FOR THIS BLOODY TIME! She catches sight of the Blurr and Hyperdrive too late to really get the cloaks in place to avoid being seen. Still...if she's going to be annoyed by the presence of others, then they must suffer the same.

Inverting, she flies down canopy-to-...uh...cockpit? Driver's canopy? Whatever it is. Basically right over Blurr. <<Well, out for a casual drive? I hear it's dangerous down here. All kinds of lunatics out and about.>>

Blurr has posed:
Yep, Hyperdrive is pretty much talking to himself. Blurr's too far ahead to hear him. But he's come to a stop, finally, on the other side of the gaping chasm. As Nightlash arrives, he's headed down into the structure the track lended on the roof of. "Yeah, totally." he answers wryly toward Nightlash's question. "A casual drive through a cavern full of unknown territory and potentially even monsters. Very casual."

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive says, "MONSTERS?! Oh come on now.. I could be studying the various uses of explosives or some of the treaties right now." Blurr's new friend isn't attacking yet so he's not going to do anything until told. Finally he catches up and sighs, "Let me guess...I'm the only idiot who hasn't said no ta goin on patrol with ya?" Either that or its punishment for being friends with Swivel. TOo Nightlash he adds, "Uhh hi there?""

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash huffs. "Just need some better engines, slowpoke!" She grins inwardly but doesn't quite slow down. That's up to Blurr. But...well, there's that magic word. "Why not study how monsters react to explosives? Best of both worlds...."

Blurr has posed:
"I said 'potential' monsters." Blurr clarifies. "If you've gotten to studying the archives yet, a while back the Decepticons unleashed a bunch of these beast-looking creatures on the Undergrid while they were trying to excavate Trypticon." He descends into what looks like some kind of storage facility, stacked floor to ceiling with crates the size of Hyperdrive. "We took care of most of them, we think--but there could still be a few lurking around, who knows."

He opens one of the crates and peers in momentarily. "Yep, this should be it." A sigh. "Look Hyperdrive, I don't know how many cadets like you would kill to get sent on special missions like you do, so maybe you should quit complaining. Or find someone to switch places with you."

He glances at Nightlash. "Why would we need to study that? I'm pretty sure 'blowing up' is the universal reaction to explosives."

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive says, "Actually....there was an energy leech that ya had ta use cold on cause any exothermic reaction or energy attack tended ta make it even more powerful. And there was this decidedly unhappy extra that it sometimes split inta more than one of its kind that way." He transforms and looks at Blurr a moment before he sighs, "Look...I'm sorry, I...I just figured you weren't respondin ta me cause ya were mad at me or annoyed or disgusted with me....like some of the others. It didn't come ta mind that you actually wanted me along.""

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash pfffts. "Not always true... Could just be unharmed, or perhaps even replicate. Each blown piece turning into a smaller version of the big one and-" she pauses as Hyperdrive details others and similar events," SEE! You NEVER KNOW!" She slows to a hover and sort of provides a bit of overwatch all the same.

Blurr has posed:
"Okay, fine whatever." Blurr waves his hand dismissively at the hypotheses about explosions, not really caring.

"It wasn't my decision, but I'm guessing the reason you're getting deployed is because of your performance on the train against those seekers one time. You know, the time you practically single-handedly defended the entire cargo? Yeah. So you can imagine why the other cadets are probably jealous. Not that I would actuall know."

He pulls out a series of tracking devices and starts tagging the room, the small instruments drilling themselves into the wall and clicking into place before beeping to indicate they are active. "Well Nightlash what are you waiting for, I'll let you have your pick of whatever you can carry on yourself I guess." Most of the contents of the room are just standard munitions, though there are a few things that are unusual...

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive frowns, knowing just how jealous some of the cadets had been. And how scuffed his paint was after that. And having to explain the dents without ratting out the cadets. He moves some of the boxes around, moving like materials together for easier sorting

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash turns a few sensors down at Blurr as the 'offer' is made, but hesitates, even as her scanners begin to probe for useful items in the mix. "What's the catch?" It's a 'Prowl Induced Question' really, one more for self-preservation than anything else.

Blurr has posed:
Definitely lots of useful things. Munitions, medkits, weapons, detpacks, grenades, power cells...and are those old mnemosurgery tools and parts to a spark extraction robot?

Blurr shakes his head. "Nothing. You've done enough to be considered an ally of the cause, even if you're not necessarily enlisted."

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash huhs... She detaches the drone and goes for the oddest crate in the bunch. Mnemosurgery? It's beyond her, but there's something bouncing around that primary processor of hers. The drone just rockets off to take the payload to... somewhere, and she starts tracking its progress. "The frightening thing is one of these days I'll either be forced to join or you'll just grind my gears enough for me to not care..."

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive spends a few moments looking at some of the weapons. Since a certain incident, he's found himself to be much more impressed with certain weapons. He glances at a couple of the guns before packing them up and closing the crate. Optics watch in fascination as Nightlash takes one of the crates that he didn't recognize the contents of. Either way, its not his place to speak against or for since Blurr is the superior officer in this mission. And he really is trying very hard not to mess things up.

Blurr has posed:
Blurr notices Nightlash take off with a particular crate. Eh, they'll figure out what she took and note it later. He finishes up with the tracking beacons. "Right, I'm gonna circle the perimeter and set up proximity alerts, so that if any Decepticons or anyone else unauthorized tries to grab any of this before Operations crews get here we'll know to deploy a response unit. You two stay here and make sure no one tries to spring us before I can get them up. Er...Hyperdrive at least you do that. Nightlash you just do whatever you want I guess."

Nightlash has posed:
"If it were up to me, I'd rig it all to explode. If someone takes it without disarming the device, they'll wind up part of a crater. Could be useful and safe at the same time. I mean, you don't want the wrong mech to get ahold of this, do you?"

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive makes a face and nods. "I can do that, you be careful. I really don't want ta lose another partner while on a mission." He grins faintly and then looks at Nightlash. "As long as its rigged ta blow when I'm NOT here. I am kinda allergic to being blown up.

Blurr has posed:
Well if Nightlash has the ability to make that happen, no one is really stopping her from doing so at the moment. Blurr was already long gone by the time she spoke up, anyway. So it's just the two of them for the time being. Astroseconds tick by, then a breem. Surely, Blurr isn't the sort to take his time doing these things?

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash ehs. "You only die once...and once you're gone, you're gone. Not like it matters any. As long as it's not a slow degradation into madness where you're just left to rust away without much in the way of help..." She huffs softly. "I think you'll be fine." And...curses, her drone's not here. Where'd that blabbermouth Blurr go anyway?

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive looks at Nightlash, "Yeah But I'm not very old yet...like...really young and all and really not wantin ta die. I've got too many people to annoy still..." HE gives her a grin and glances around, "Ummm maybe we shoulda asked him how far he was patrollin."

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash is in no proper form to return grins or other snarky expressions. Just a jet...ish...thing. She carefully directs what onboard systems she has this way and that, though, primarily her radio systems, looking for a good signal that might indicate where Blurr went before transforming and dropping down, moving to one of the crates to rummage about. "Bet he found something nasty... bet it blows up good." She chuckles softly.

Blurr has posed:
Another breem goes by, and still--no sign of Blurr. However, there is a sudden and very shrill noise that abruptly pierces the silence. It's a pretty terrible sound...now about those monsters Blurr mentioned earlier...

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive frowns and moves over to the munitions crate. "Ummmm Do you have weapons or do ya need me ta protect ya? Or at least cover yer escape?" He doesn't like the sounds but he needs to keep a level head rather than freak out. "Do you have long radio capabilities?"

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash thinks for a moment, tapping her head casually after a few more... "Uh. Nope. Sure don't. If I had my drone, then maybe." She continues to piece together whatever she's working on, then casually tosses a cylinder in the air with all sorts of battery packs and power cells strapped onto it with wires before grinning. "Let's go test some theories!"

Blurr has posed:
The noises grow louder and more frequent. Whatever it is, it's hostile, and Blurr is probably in trouble. Better get to the rescue before it eats him alive.

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive is starting to dance back and forth a little with his feet. He looks at the gear and checks the systems to make sure the secuity network is intact. "WEll if you think this is a good idea, I guess I should be makin sure Blurr isn't bein eaten." He looks at her. "Try not ta blow blurr up, I'll have ta do paperwork and talk ta Prowl if he dies."

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash says, "Pfffft. Of course it's not a good idea. We'll probably die horribly. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it." And...with that, she casually starts walking down the walkways after where Blurr went -and towards the noise- while emitting a sound that curiously sounds like...whistling? Yep."

Blurr has posed:
Once outside, it's pretty obvious where whatever this thing is has gone. There's a trail of some kind of soft but durable polymer stuff on the ground, which can be followed a few paces to the inside of a defunct building with a gaping hole in the side and the walls hollowed out. Inside of the building is more of that stringy polymer stuff--and Blurr, trapped in the midst of it. Perched on top of the structure is probably one of those monster the speedster had been talking about earlier. It resembles some kind of twisted hybrid of a dinosaur and a spider. And those teeth. Oh, those teeth are long and sharp. And they are latched onto Blurr's arm.

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive can't argue with that logic. He also can't help but smile at Nightlash. Glancing at her improvised device he offers, "So do you know what the blast radius of that is gonna be? Oh and if these guys are underground they might not like my flashbangs....though the cons don't seem to like them either." Of course as he's talking and walking he looks up and sees well...Blurr is under attack and stuck not moving. Poor guy. "Oh slag'"

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash says, "Uuuuh....blast radius will be, uh," she looks at the thing. "Large. Maybe larger." She shrugs casually. "I'd just...avoid being near it. Maybe we can just shove it inside something and contain it. That works, right?" She peers at the trail, then the monster that's nibbling on Blurr's arm... "Huh. Guess he must have hit a speed bump... I've never seen him sit that still." She just pulls out her holdout blaster and starts to shoot at ...whatever it is, walking towards it all the while with relatively calm ease."

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive frowns and sees that Blurr is really in trouble. He rushes forward to try and get the spider off of BLurr. He takes aim and shoots at the biggest part of the spider's backend. "I can try and stun the critter but yas gotta be ready fer me ta light the place up."

Blurr has posed:
Well, that definitely got the creature's attention. It pulls away from Blurr to direct its fury at its attackers, the shots having scorched its scaly abdomen somewhat. With another terrible shriek, it lashes out with a long, clawed leg in attempt to knock the two of them off of their feet.

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash ows... Well, there goes just casually walking up to thrust a bomb down the creature's throat. Especially when it just sends her flying back with its sweeping attack. She grunts, falling back, and transforms before going airborn. <<New strategy, hit it harder.>>

And hit it harder she does. Or, uh, well, tries. One never knows with these missiles she's got... One of the sleek projectiles rolls out and locks on something resembling a target before launching and streaking down.

<<Oh! Uh, Blurr, duck!>>

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive is struck pretty solidly. He really needs to NOT be hit by that thing again if he can help it. WHile nightlash seems able to hit it harder, Hyperdrive must go for smarter. "Nightlash! Blurr! Block yer sensors!" He gives them but a moment to register what he's doing before he lobs a flashbang right in her way. Hopefully she doesn't eat it before it has a chance to blind her." He winces after the lob, definately not likeing the amount of damage the spider has done to him already.

Blurr has posed:
The beast howls when Nightlash's bomb explodes in its face, immediately followed by a flashbang from Hyperdrive. That explosion definitely did some real damage, and now a light green colored fluid is spurting out of several open wounds on its body. It targets Nightlash, who now has the most aggro because she did the most damage by far. It crouches and then lunges at her, jaws aiming to clamp down on her body!

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash watches the glorious explosion and laughs. "HAHA! Did you see that? It totally-" Whoops, mask the sensors from flashbangs. BOOM. She huffs. "Well, that's one way to fix the problem..." She watches as the creature comes after her and carefully adjusts one of those ailerons to roll out of the path of the attack, transforming as that cylinder she put together comes into play again...and she just drops it into the charging beast's mouth. I mean, if it's going to come after her, she might as well give it something to chew on, right?

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive is glad that the monster seems to be directing its attacks futily against Nightlash. "Keep it up! I'll try and free blurr if you can keep it from chewin on me! Watch out fer the webbin. There might be more of it in the shadows and ya don't want ta end up like Blurr!" He fires at the monster and then runs, going quiet and uses his small size to quickly bolt from one side to the other, looking Blurr over to figure the quickest way to extract him.

Blurr has posed:
Fortunately for Hyperdrive, the flashbang's effects are still wearing off, so the creature doesn't notices him. Besides Nightlash has struck again, this time even harder! The cylinder explodes in its mouth before it can even reach her, sending even more body fluids spraying everywhere. It screeches and backs away before rushing off and disappearing into an old public transit passage behind the broken building, having decided that Blurr just wasn't worth all this trouble!

The strange polymer 'webbing' seems to come apart fairly easily, if one just pulls at it enough, maybe uses some firearms to help with the thicker parts. Blurr is sporting open wounds where the thing bit him, and appears to be unconscious.

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash has absolutely no sense of urgency to get Blurr out of...whatever it is. She's got her eye on the burning and (now) retreating beast, and she pulls her blaster out to take a few pot-shots at it as it runs off. "Oh...come on! I just wanted to play rough!"

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive tugs on BLurr and uses his laser pistol with the settings redone in order to try and cut Blurr the rest of the way out. He frowns, "Blurr come on, ya gotta speak ta me...or somethin." He watches Nightlash and smiles a little before looking with concern on Blurr and giving him another good tug to get him free.

Blurr has posed:
Nightlash's potshots definitely don't convince the beast to come back for more. Nope, it quickly disappears into the dark tunnel. Hyperdrive doesn't have too much trouble getting Blurr down. As soon as most of the webbing is cut away, he plops down onto the ground in front of the cadet. He doesn't respond, and definitely doesn't look to be good shape at all.

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash huffs as...well, that's the fight. She sort of stares after the departed beast a moment before turning and rejoining Blurr and Hyperdrive, dropping her blaster carelessly into a subspace pocket for later use. "Well, guess that's that, then... OH...shoot, I should have rigged all that stuff to blow up on it." She peers back where the cargo crates sit. "That would have been hysterical..."

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive struggles to make Blurr lay in a more natural and less rumpled position. "Do ya think you could help me get him at least back ta where the supplies are? Its a little more defensible and I might have better reception where I can try and call fer help. Otherwise I think I could drag him there, but I'm sure he'd kill me when he found all the scratches."

Nightlash has posed:
Nightlash blinks... "He hates scratches?" She shrugs and just grabs Blurr to drag him along because, well, she had a good tip from a reliable source scratches were disliked. "Come on, then...let's get him somewhere. We'll just say the monster did it if he gripes about scrapes."

Hyperdrive has posed:
Hyperdrive acks! as Nightlash starts dragging Blurr anyway. He quickly moves to lift up most of whatever part of Blurr is being left to drag and help get him to safety where he can call for backup to get all the stuff amd blurr home safely.
