Profile[]
Approaches war in a logical, objective manner. His cold, calculating nature makes it hard for him to understand or deal with intuitive, emotional thinking. While he works diligently for the Decepticon cause, he has his own agenda that few understand. In robot mode his left hand is replaced with a cannon that can emit lethal beams of energy from anywhere on the electromagnetic spectrum: gamma rays, x-rays, light, infra-red rays, radio waves, etc. Altmode consists of a giant laser cannon that is capable of independent flight and firing devastating blasts of destructive power. Is as much at home on the battlefield as he is in a laboratory, and it is debatable on which one he is more terrifying.
Background[]
Originally, Shockwave was the apprentice of Jhiaxus. He experimented during this time, anticipating a future energy crisis and fueled by tales of the Dark Cybertron prophecy related to him by his master; he distilled an ore from raw energon in an attempt to create a self-replicating energy source. He planted this ore in the ruins of Crystal City, but the experiment was seemingly ruined by Jhiaxus unleashing his gestalt creation, Monstructor, to do battle with Omega Supreme. Jhiaxus' monster failed and he eventually left Cybertron, leaving Shockwave to finish his work. He studied dutifully, learning a great deal about ancient Cybertron and all of its various myths and legends. He later joined the Senate and was betrayed and transformed by Proteus and Sentinel Prime via Shadowplay into his current form due to his passionate and outspoken nature.
He manipulated the Senate briefly by lying about his previous energy crisis concerns and was invited to join up with Megatron by Starscream as Megatron wanted a combiner. Shockwave agreed in order to gain access to more resources and robust facilities. He started his work with claw hands, courtesy of Proteus, but was given a new hand and an arm cannon, that he chose, by Megatron to expedite his work. Shockwave served dutifully from this point onward, acting out of character only once - to wound Dai Atlas so that he would not be present for Megatron's massacre of the Senate - and survived the reign of Scorponok by following orders and returning to his isolated work. Getting results and keeping a low profile were key to avoiding conflict in the Decepticon ranks, Shockwave learned quickly, and he applies this strategy even with the return of Megatron.
Skills & Abilities[]
Electromagnetic Spectrum Manipulation: Shockwave has complete command of the entire electromagnetic spectrum by way of his arm cannon. Though he most commonly makes use of purple laser beams, he is also able to channel microwaves, EMP pulses, radio waves and x-rays in combat.
Unreadable Mind: Soundwave can read minds, but Shockwave's cannot be read. This is due to the Shadowplay inflicted upon him by Proteus and Sentinel Prime. This fact tends to make Soundwave very suspicious and uneasy.
Science: Shockwave is absurdly good at what he does in the labratory. Unhindered by anything as silly as morals or ethics, he experiments as freely as he pleases and gets results, often to the detriment of his victims during live experiments. As brutal in science as he is on the battlefield, one of the last places that any Cybertronian wants to be is in Shockwave's laboratory as a test subject. This skill in the scientific arena eventually leads to Shockwave seeding other worlds with ore for his Regenesis project, but the first has already been placed. The first, and arguably the most important. His reputation as Jhiaxus' former student precedes him, and was almost certainly the reason for his invitation to the Decepticons.
Combat Ability: A powerful foe, Shockwave did not have to really resort to violence in his previous life, but his time in the Decepticons has been considerably more eventful. When he was given new hands by Megatron, he opted for a laser cannon to replace one of them as Megatron's rebellion was about to officially begin. This cannon draws directly from Shockwave's vast internal energy reserves and allow him to decimate opponents with all manner of lasers and electromagnetic energy. Physically, Shockwave is also surprisingly powerful, a holdover from his pre-Shadowplay days. Even before he was given a different head and has his hands taken from him, Shockwave was a large, powerfully built Cybertronian.
Weaknesses[]
Emotional Thinking: Once, Shockwave was a being full of passion. He is now a cold, calculating machine. His logical world is very ordered and exposure to extreme chaos and utterly irrational thinking can have a devastating effect on his mental state, depending on the situation.
Suspicious Goals: While Megatron knows that Shockwave has his own agenda, he's still doing everything that he is asked for the Decepticons and further advances their cause. Shockwave does not believe in this cause, but he does believe in failure being a waste of time and resources. He therefore avoids it. Unfortunately, his agenda is still the primary focus of all of his efforts and others are likely to become suspicious with just how much time he spends isolated away from others. The fact that Soundwave cannot read his mind immediately makes him a target of the spymaster's ire, too.
Reliance on Numbers: While Shockwave is not exactly arrogant, as being arrogant generally requires some sort of an ego, he does believe in whatever logical outcome that he calculates for a particular situation. Like confronting over-emotional or irrational thinking and actions, an utterly unexpected outcome can put him on the defensive, if only briefly.
